I just tried a superb Merlot wine. I bought the wine at Total Wine in San Mateo. The price is $9.97. I wanted to try this wine because the Wine Enthusiast ranked it number 75 on its list of the Top 100 Wines of 2020. Wow! Could it be that a wine that costs less than $10 be one of the best wines of the year? The wine is the 2018 Bonterra California Merlot. Here is what I think about this bottle of Merlot.
2018 Bonterra California Merlot
I very much like this Merlot and at this price, I will buy several more bottles. The wine is very pleasant and enjoyable. It is on the medium side, maybe to the light side of medium. It is a good food wine, and because of its reserve style, it is a good wine to have with many foods. Have it with chicken, pork, salmon, and pasta and pizza dishes. The wine has decent acidity to counter lots of tomato type dishes.
Bonus – The grapes in this wine are all organically grown.
Bonterra is a winery in Mendocino County, near the town of Hopland. The Chilean winery, Concha y Toro, is the parent company of Bonterra Winery.
